Around U podcast released

Newbury Bayer Diabetes Care has launched a new podcast demonstrating that having diabetes should not hinder young people from having fun.

Every year, Bayer Diabetes Care runs a series of events for young people with diabetes, called Around U. These events are based around football and dance training and demonstrate that with regular monitoring and control, young people with diabetes can lead active lifestyles.

The podcast footage was filmed during the Around U 2011 season, which saw football sessions at Glasgow Celtic FC’s training ground as well as at the London Soccerdome, under the guidance of West Ham United’s Youth Academy.  Dance events were staged at City Limits Dancentre in Sheffield and London’s Pineapple Studios.  In total, nearly 200 young people attended the 2011 events, where in addition to playing sports they also learned more about diabetes from medical professionals and motivational speakers who have diabetes.

Andrea Postles, for Bayer Diabetes Care, said: “Around U Sport Days have run over four years now.  They have grown in size and popularity and we are delighted with how well they are received. By creating this podcast we wanted to let young people with diabetes know that they do have a support network. Events like this exist whereby they can explore sports in a safe environment with experts on hand who are able to guide them.”
